We’re looking for an experienced Python back-end developer and data engineer to work on our data-driven research tools. Our projects help investigative journalists to access vast amounts of data and to unravel complex stories about corruption and fraud. You will be part of a team that develops our data search and case management products. That includes growing and maintaining a large fleet of web scrapers and extending our data analysis capabilities (e.g. natural language processing and knowledge graphs). We aim to provide stable, secure and fast APIs that give journalists access to terabytes of public records, leaked information and source documents. Ideally, you are both interested in the field of investigative reporting and in the architecture and design of complex data systems. You know how to whip up a quick prototype during a hack day, but can also contribute to the operation of production services. Our technology stack includes Python/Flask, PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch, with JavaScript-based frontends. We use Docker for deployment, and product security is a strong concern. Our products are open source software, published via GitHub. The team is located in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. And, the Statistics for Alcohol Management (SAM) is a data warehouse with a graphical, online analytical processing (OLAP) front-end that delivers instant access to monthly account-level information and several years of historical sales data. Within NABCA, the MIS Services department is responsible for providing programming support for data processing and reporting functions.
